The year of 2017 was a little dramatic for the automobile industry in India. The introduction of BSIV emission and the GST worked as a hindrance to the growth of this industry.
1. Maruti Suzuki Alto - 2,57,732 units sold
Maruti Suzuki Alto is undoubtedly leading the list of most number of units sold, since the day it launched in the market. This year too, no other model is anywhere close to it. Maruti was successful in selling 2, 57,732 units in 2017 of its entry level hatchback Alto. That is equal to almost 21, 478 units per month. The minimum number of units was sold in June. But at the same time, there was a rise of 13% noticed in the sale as compared to last year.
2. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire - 2, 25, 043 units sold
In 2017, the most awaited facelift was seen in the automotive industry. The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire was launched in May. This new model was a hit in the market and successfully sold around 30,934 units and 34, 395 units in just first two months. By the end of the year 2017, the company was able to sell 2, 25, 043 units.
3. Maruti Suzuki Baleno - 1, 77, 209 units sold
The Baleno was able to score 7th rank in 2016, with the sale of 97, 580 units. But year 2017 came as a surprise for the company. They were able to witness the growth of 81% in this year. Baleno has changed the dimension of the automobile market in India. The number of units sold this year was almost doubled from the previous one. They also launched the RS variant of Baleno this year. It looked like people are ready to move over the conventional models in the market.
4. Maruti Suzuki Swift - 1,67,371 units
The swift was able to be in demand because of the special edition model that was introduced by the company from last three years. It is without a doubt the leader in this segment of hatchback since the year it had hit the road of the country. In the year of 2017, they were able to sell around 1, 67,371 units with an average of approximately 14,000 units per month. The new Swift was about to release very soon, but still, this beast was able to get an edge over newly launched hatchbacks. The production of this extremely successful model was put to rest in December, 23rd.
5. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R - 1,66,814 units sold
The Wagon R is considered to be the most basic car which is able to deliver what is desired from a car. In the year 2017, Maruti Suzuki has comfortably sold around 1,66,814 units to Indian buyers, with an average of 14,000 units per month. The reason behind this demand is not hidden from anyone. Wagon R is reliable, low maintenance and fuel efficient. These are the reason why it was able to cross the mark of 2 million sales in September.
6. Hyundai Grand i10 - 1,54,787
Hyundai has successfully scored the 6th position in the list of highest number of units sold. The model was Grand i10. They were able to sell 1,54,787 unit in this year. By the extremely nice packaging loaded with attractive features and reliability for the long run, the Grand i10 was able to sell approx 13k units per month. They had also updated the engine of the car by introducing new diesel engine which was bigger in size.
7. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Breeza - 1,40,945 units sold
The compact crossover of the Maruti Suzuki was able to sell 1,40,945 units of the Vitara Breeza. It was also the winner of 2017 ICOTY Award. Although Vitara Breeza is offering only single powertrain option for their user and present in the market for almost 2 years, still the company has managed the average of 11,745 numbers of sales per month. The reason behind its success is its higher fuel efficiency in the segment of crossover. And that too comes with the trust of Maruti Suzuki.
8. Hyundai Elite i20 - 1,34,103 units sold
Elite i20 is the second model of Hyundai that has scored its position on this list. This has topped the number of sales in the premium hatchback segment, with 1,34,103 units sold in 2017. The reason behind the great interest that Indian car buyers have shown in this model is its premium looks that now comes with dual tone exterior, the addition of all black interior that comes with minute details of orange, and new touchscreen infotainment console of 7.0 inch. This system can be sync with both Apple and Android. Also, the Korean company is offering six airbags for all the passengers inside the vehicle.
9. Hyundai Creta 1,05,484 units sold
The 9th position in this list was scored by another model Hyundai, that is, Creta. This was the only second crossover that had secured the position in this list. The company was able to sell 1,05,484 of Creta in the Indian market. On an average, they sold more than 8.5k units per month that year. This model has set the trend for another carmaker to follow. For a vehicle worth more than Rs 10 lacs, these figures are quite magnificent.
10. Maruti Suzuki Celerio - 1,00,860 units sold
Celerio is the 7th model of the Maruti which was able to cross the mark of one lacs units sold. The company was able to able to sold 1,00,860 units with an average of approximately 8,405 units sold per month in the year 2017. Celerio was even able to outnumber the sale of Swift that is considered as the champion in this segment. At the end of 2017, Celerio has got the little cosmetic update, with the new edition Celerio X. The Celerio has witnessed ups and down in sales.
